Where Does Doomsday Prepping Start? Valuable Instant Steps!

Where does doomsday prepping start?

You may be wondering where doomsday prepping starts. What things need to be done to prepare for an emergency? Well, there’s no exact science to it and what works for one person may be different for another.

There are essentials that all doomsday preppers need. This article is a great way to start doomsday prepping.

Determine what you have, what you need, and what you can afford

Where does doomsday prepping start? You need to know what you have before you can start. So take stock of what you already have around your home.

If you are like most people, you probably have a lot of things that are useful in an emergency situation. The vast majority of people already have water stored in their homes. You probably have some canned food and other non-perishable items. So first make a list of what items you already have for your prepping efforts!

This will save you time and money.

Long Shelf Life Food

When it comes to prepping but more importantly doomsday prepping a good place to start is with food. It is where I started out because it is an easy way to start prepping without much know-how!

The first thing that you need to consider when choosing food items is how long they will last. You want things that have long shelf lives, and do not require any refrigeration. Things such as beans, rice, chickpeas, canned foods, dehydrated foods, dried fruits, jerky, tuna, powdered eggs, and so on.

I would buy one specific item and make sure I have enough for me and my family to have that item for a long time. Then I went on to the next food item on my list. This is how I built a large stockpile over time.

Water Storage

Water storage is by far the most important thing to get started when becoming a doomsday prepper. You can start out with bottled water, and progress upwards to water tanks. You need to allot at least a gallon a day and in colder environments possibly less.

It’s important to know how much space you need. You should also have water in your bug-out bag that you change out every few months ready to go. There are various types of containers to buy. You should estimate how far your water would last, for an extended period of time.

Then implement catchment systems such as rainwater collection. That may not be applicable as a whole especially if you can not drink that water because of an apocalyptic event for example. It is a good thing to have, I might add. The more options I have for collecting, purifying, and storing my water the better!

Underground Storage

Like most things that can go bad, you want to make sure that your water is always stored properly. So make sure it is sealed tightly and is maintained regularly. If it’s underground then the chances of sunlight hitting your water should not be in the equation. When sunlight hits the water, it can create bacteria growth/algae.

The Type Of Shelter You Have

This is an important one when preparing. You should ideally have two place’s to go to when SHTF. You don’t want to find that your main place, becomes unsustainable.

It never hurts to have more than one option, of places to go to.

Alternative Power and Heat

If you want to be prepared for the coming apocalypse, then you need to think about alternative power and heat.

This is a key one, as it will play a major role in your survival. You should start with small aspects of alternative power. In today’s world, you can easily buy small foldable solar panels that can be stored in a backpack. There are solar power cell phone cases and the list goes on.

I would start small and then work up to a larger scale.

You can also look into wind turbines or hydroelectric generators if your situation allows it. If not, then look into other options like wood-burning stoves or propane heaters for cooking and heating water for bathing or drinking purposes respectively. The more options the better!

Personal Protection

It is important to know that when things go south, it’s important to have a plan in place. The world is a dangerous place, and it’s getting more dangerous every day. So you need to be prepared.

Personal protection is a must because when SHTF, things change. When people panic and things become emergencies people do not think clearly. This leads to looting and other activities which cause such destruction and possibly death.

In a worst-case scenario, you might need to be able to protect yourself from an attacker. In an apocalyptic event, you will need to be able to protect yourself and your family!

Establish a bug-in or bug-out plan and location

What if you want to bug in and you run out of supplies? Or things change for the worst. The same can be said for buying out, in that it may not be worth risking being on the move. It could be safer staying put. Either way, you need to have a game plan for both plans of action.

The first thing you need to do is establish a bug-in or bug-out plan and location. In other words, you need to have a plan B if you need to get out of dodge. Things can turn south, even if you are prepared which is why you need to have a plan in place.

You should have a location in mind or maybe you already have started! It’s an important thing to have more than one plan on what you need to do.

Learn new skills and improve on your existing ones

This is by far one of the easiest things you can do to get started. I am always trying to improve my knowledge of survival as a whole.

It’s easy to get overwhelmed when you’re first starting out. There are so many things you could be doing! But one of the best ways to get started is to focus on one thing at a time.

I’ve always been fascinated by survival skills, and I’ve spent years trying to learn as much about them as possible. One of the first things that I focused on was how to make a fire. This took me six months to master when I was very young. I did not just learn how to start a fire with a fire starter but with what was around me. This is one example of sticking to learning one skill and mastering it!

So take some time, and learn a new skill that could help you, even if it seems intimidating at first!

Start Now

There are so many things you can do to start prepping. My best advice is to start now. Even if it is just looking up information like you are already doing. Just make an effort and take things step by step. You will be amazed at how far you have come when you stay consistent.
