What Should I Hoard For Doomsday? Useful Instant Tips!

What Should I Hoard For Doomsday?

It’s not a matter of if, but when.

You know it. We know it. And now we’re going to make sure that you know what to do when the end times come.

You want to know what you should hoard for doomsday/apocalypse! Well, there are a few things you should have in the event of an apocalyptic event. We have the most important things you will need to start with.

Type Of Apocalyptic Event

What should you hoard? It all depends on the type of apocalyptic event you’re preparing for.

The type of apocalyptic event will determine what things to hoard more than others. If you are preparing for a nuclear attack a good thing to have would be having a gas mask. It would not be the “end-all-be-all” for protecting your lungs but would be a good way at protecting you in case you are caught outside with radiation. Or having to bug out to your bunker.

Many Different Possibilities

If your bunker is going to be nuked, head-on you won’t make it either way. It will not matter how much food you stock up on. If you’re expecting a pandemic outbreak(ten times more deadly than COVID).

Then, food stockpiles are probably going to be your best bet. As well as air filtration and water purification/storage.

The point is the type of disaster you prepare for will be key in determining what you need. That being said there are basics, which we will cover.

Water And Food

Water and food are the two most important things you can have when it comes to any type of emergency. Without them, you won’t survive. That’s why preppers know this. They make sure they have enough water storage and food storage to last them a long time.

When it comes to water storage, buy water tanks to collect rainwater for example. Have bottled water and a way to purify water(more than one). The more options the better!

In regards to food, focus on shelf life. You want foods that are canned, dehydrated, dried, and so on. You do not want to buy food that will spoil in a few weeks’ time!

Mylar Bags

They are my favorite way of storing food for an emergency and allow my food to last a long time. Some even decades.

Duct Tape

You might be taken back as to why duct tape would be on my list of items to hoard for the apocalypse. Well, I love the stuff and so should you! The amount of uses that duct tape provides is truly amazing.

In a survival situation, duct tape can be a game-changer. Get a heavy-duty duck tape like: Gorilla All Weather Outdoor Waterproof Duct Tape. It’s ideal for repairing leaks in your shelter or clothing. It can also be used for creating splints for broken bones. It could also patch up bullet wounds, which hopefully will not be the case!

Think of if a nuclear explosion occurred a few miles away. You would need to seal your home. Duct tape to the rescue/with plastic sheeting!

There are so many things you can use with good duct tape. I know it’s a good thing to hoard.

Money, Gold, And Silver

If you think of an item that would be valuable if SHTF, then you know you can use it to barter. The more you have the better your situation but also more people will want what you have.

In some SHTF situations, money will be worth just “paper”. That’s why it’s a good idea to have some gold and silver as well which retain an inherent value.

When an apocalyptic event occurs you will need things of value. You will either have to barter for other items or most definitely protect what is yours.

Starving

I want you to think, if people are starving and thirsty will they care about your gold ring?

If they have medicine that they need to survive, will they care that you have money? It is good to have money, gold/silver but more than that. You want items that people will need that they can not make or produce.

Medicine

The value that medicine would have in a post-apocalyptic world will be so great! People are bound to get sick and have illnesses that need to be treated. When SHTF, over time medicine, will run short.

There are many medicines that can not be produced without a factory(company) behind them. For example, if someone has a major infection and needs antibiotics they will not be able to get any(easily). Things that can save people’s lives, or feed them will always have value.

Personal Protection

When the world turns upside down, it’s important to be prepared.

The best form of protection is a firearm, it’s the great equalizer, regardless of who you are. It doesn’t matter how big or small you are. So when SHTF and an apocalyptic event has occurred, you want to be safe.

What would stop a group of thugs from hurting your family? Or taking all your food or life?

You know the answer: a firearm.

I would not focus on having every firearm possible. But having a few that you know how to use proficiently and have lots of ammunition for can make all the difference in the world.

Practice

A key aspect of what to hoard is knowing how to use them and safety. Having ALOT of ammunition and knowing how to clean your weapons will be central.

I would learn how to make my own ammunition as well if you have the time. If you plan ahead and learn how. This could allow you to have a healthy supply of ammunition during dark times.

If you run out, you could make more.

Soap

Soap is the best.

When an apocalyptic event happens, tap water most likely will stop running. The importance of staying clean should be a priority. I say this because when you become very dirty, you are more likely to have other things happen.

Either from infections from a simple cut or from getting sick from not washing your hands.

The importance of soap can not be overlooked. You can make your own, but I would make sure to hoard a lot of soap before the grid goes down. If the grid goes down, illnesses will increase and so will the demand for soap.

Toilet Paper

When it comes to items to hoard for the apocalypse, toilet paper is not an essential item. Some would argue otherwise. It is a luxury that I would like to have a lot of and you would too I can imagine.

So having a lot of toilet paper, is not a bad idea. For personal hygiene purposes and other things like that. But if we are talking about it from a survival standpoint then it’s not an essential item.

Alternative Power

You want to have a few ways of powering your home/devices. I would have solar energy incorporated into items to buy. That can be on a small scale and having foldable solar panels. That you can carry with you or large-scale solar for homes.

Wind-power I Would Avoid

I would stay away from wind power because of my experiences with it. I have one friend who swears by it but two others who are in the same camp as me. There tends to be a lot of maintenance and issues that I have found with wind turbines. The power tends to be very unreliable, not even close to solar.

Hydropower is one of the best ways to generate power as well. It is continuous and if you have land that even has a small creek that flows through it you are in luck.

You can easily harness that stream with a generator such as a water wheel. There are other water generator options other than a water wheel that are on the market.

Batteries

Batteries will be one of those items that will be valuable in an apocalypse. They will be worth a lot to whoever has a lot of them. Regardless of them being regular batteries or larger ones(solar). The point is batteries would be another item to hoard.

They come in so many different sizes and shapes. There will be a need for them always!

So make sure you have the right type of batteries that you need. Preferably ones that can be recharged.

First-Aid Supplies

Just like medicine, first aid supplies are going to be a good thing to hoard. There will always be injuries and problems that require first aid supplies. So having a lot of first-aid supplies will only help you in the long run during an apocalypse.

Swiss Army Knife

I would have a few swiss army knifes as well. They have multiple uses and can really help you out in various situations.

Having a compass is another good item to have more than one of.

As you can see, there are many things that you can hoard in preparation for an apocalyptic event. The key is to think about what you will need and how you can use it to your advantage. Plan ahead and be prepared for anything!
