Is it possible to drink one’s urine in a survival situation?
Yes, it is 100% possible to drink one’s urine in a survival situation. Drinking pee or urine is not an advisable thing to do in a survival situation. It does more harm than good when you need water.
But I saw it on a tv show?
Well, just because it’s on tv doesn’t mean it’s a good idea. That is very much the case when it comes to using your pee to survive. Urine consumption is not the way to go if you want to survive. There are no health benefits when drinking urine for survival.

Is drinking Urine beneficial?
Some people believe in the benefits of drinking urine. That being said it was an old practice that was done thousands of years ago. There is no benefit to drinking urine. In a survival situation, you may be tempted to drink your urine to avoid dehydration. There are not any benefits in doing so in survival, and it can be harmful to your health. Urine is made up of water and waste products, which means that it will not hydrate your body. Drinking urine can lead to dehydration by causing you to lose more fluids than you take in.
Urine can also contain a host of harmful bacteria that can cause urinary tract infections or other illnesses. If you find yourself in a situation where you don’t have access to clean water, your best bet is to ration what you do have and wait for rescue. Drinking urine is not an effective way to stay hydrated, and it can put your health at risk.
How to use Urine to survive?
The best way to use your urine if you needed to survive, would not be to drink it. It could be used to create a fire using a see-through plastic bag. In the same way, you would start a fire using a magnifying glass. It could also be used to “mark” your territory from animals. In reality, urine does not serve a great deal of use in a survival situation. I wish it did!
Why do people drink Urine?
People drink pee or urine for many reasons. These typically are related to survival or alternative medicine. I would not drink urine if I needed to survive. It does not hydrate you at all and can cause severe dehydration which could make you pass out. Even if I was dying of thirst, I would not drink my urine. If there is no water around, look for a plant that has moisture in it such as a cactus.
There are all kinds of people that live on planet earth. So if drinking urine serves a purpose for them, then by all means do what you need to do. That being said this is not something I would do but to each his own. Some possible benefits of drinking urine are that it can help with acne, joint pain, and even arthritis. While there are some benefits to drinking urine, I still would not recommend it!
How safe is it to drink your urine?
We’ve all been there before: stuck in the middle of nowhere with no water and feeling desperate. In this situation, you may have considered drinking your urine to prevent dehydration. But is this a safe option?
Drinking urine isn’t likely to cause any major health problems, as long as you only do it occasionally and in small amounts. Urine is mostly water, with trace amounts of other toxins that your body has already filtered out. However, these toxins can build up over time if you regularly drink urine, which could lead to health problems. Drinking urine can also cause nausea and vomiting.
So, while drinking urine isn’t necessarily harmful in some situations, it’s not the best option either. If possible, find another source of water to prevent dehydration. And if you do drink your urine, make sure to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids afterward.
In a survival situation, it is not the best of ideas.
Minerals
They do have a lot of minerals that people mention as a reason as to why they drink their urine. In reality, it is far better to not drink your urine for minerals as there are many other things you can drink or eat for that matter that have far more minerals.
Think why is my body expelling this?
It’s because it is waste that no longer serves a purpose within your body. So putting it back in is counterintuitive when you think about it.

Hydration
As mentioned above it serves little when it comes to a situation where you are thirsty or may experience heat exhaustion. If you find yourself in a desert what is the one thing you should not drink? It is your urine as it will only dehydrate you more. The only benefit in the short term would be the psychological benefit of drinking fluids.
It could give you an extra sense of hydration in the short term. In the long term, it will only be a detriment to yourself.
Bacteria
There are people on both sides of the argument when it comes to drinking pee or urine, in regards to bacteria. Bacteria are all around us and within us. It is in what we eat, touch, and so on. The key point when it comes to bacteria is the importance of removing the number of bad bacteria that we are exposed to either by air, touch, proximity, or what we eat or drink.
Urine has a lot of bacteria in it, which is not life-threatening in the vast majority of people. That being said, it is not a clean fluid that you should drink if you are stranded in the wilderness.
Why would drinking bacteria be a smart idea? Well, it’s not, because all of those toxins and bacteria in your urine are not meant to re-enter your body. The same can be said for human feces. You are not supposed to eat human feces for so many reasons. We do not eat waste or garbage and the same thing goes for feces or urine.
Is drinking urine in the desert a good idea?
It can be a good idea in a survival situation, where you may faint or die without an adequate amount of water. That being said, it does not justify drinking urine regularly for no emergency reason.
What can it do
It can help to deal with dry mouth and the most dire of circumstances. This can relieve the sensation of thirst. If I found myself in a desert environment without any water the first thing, you should look for is cactuses. They will tend to be covered in spikes that can be quite painful if not handled correctly. If you have a knife of some kind you can use the water within the cactus to survive.
It will not result in a large amount of water that you can survive off of indefinitely. It can give you the extra hours, to either find help or water.
Regardless of what environment you find yourself in, urine is not the answer. It will help you with momentary relief. The health benefits are subjective and I would not recommend drinking urine. Urine consumption will not kill you but is not the healthiest of things to do, in general, and in survival.
So If you are thinking of drinking pee for survival then I would recommend not to.
Sodium
Sodium is an essential element for survival. It helps to regulate blood pressure, transport nutrients, and maintain fluid balance in the body. However, too much sodium can be harmful. When we eat foods high in sodium, our bodies retain water to dilute the sodium concentration. This can lead to dehydration and, in extreme cases, can cause us to pass out. That’s why it’s important to drink plenty of water when we consume high-sodium foods.
Urine is another way our body gets rid of excess sodium. When we urinate, we excrete not only water but also small amounts of sodium. Urine is one of the most concentrated forms of sodium in the body. Urine is one way that the body gets rid of excess sodium. When you consume more sodium than your body needs, your kidneys filter it out of your blood and into your urine.
Drinking pee to survive?
There could be a natural disaster or many situations where you could find yourself without water. Whatever the situation drinking pee or urine is not going to help you but dehydrate you further. It will only help you in the short term with the feeling of thirst.
