Can You Survive On Only Rabbits? | The Truth About Eating Rabbit Meat

Many people are curious about the rabbit meat industry.

Can you survive on only rabbits?

What is the truth about eating rabbit meat?

There is a lot of debate about whether or not you can survive on only rabbits. Some people say that it is possible, while others believe that it would be difficult to get the right nutrients from eating nothing but rabbit meat.

Protein poisoning

What is protein poisoning?

Protein poisoning is something that the vast majority of people in a non-survival or disaster situation will ever have to worry about. That’s not to say you couldn’t find yourself in a similar situation if all you eat is lean protein.

This occurs when our bodies are consuming way too much protein. You might be thinking that protein is so important to your body on a nutritional level, which is true.

However, protein without any other food sources is lacking major elements of nutrition.

Fat And Carbohydrates

The need for fat and carbohydrates is essential with protein.

The name that has been coined as “rabbit starvation” which is when you are only taking in lean protein like rabbit without other important nutrients.

 Malnutrition

A friend of mine thought that he had hit the jackpot when he went to build a cabin in the woods a few years ago. He thought he was doing really well because he got himself a big deer. That was the only thing he was really eating and he got very sickly. This ended up with him having to come back to civilization because he did not realize the need for fats and carbohydrates.

He told me a few of the things that he experienced were the following things:

  • Fatigue
  • Vision problems
  • Breathing issues
  • Headaches
  • Diarrhea

He also told me he hallucinated because he was starving. My friend learned the hard way and never thought that only eating lean meat was not sustainable long term. He ended up making his dream come true a year later when he did his research and prepared well in advance the next time.

He was clearly experiencing malnutrition and the effects of surviving on lean meat.

Do not be my friend, realize the importance of fats and carbohydrates.

Is rabbit starvation the only kind of lean meat you can starve off of?

Certainly not, just the story that I shared about my friend who was eating more meat than he handle in the form of deer. The same applies to birds, rodents, or a host of other animals that are lean meat.

Can You Survive On Only Rabbits?

No, you can not survive on only rabbits.

What if you only have rabbits to eat?

If you find yourself in a situation where rabbits are your only food source then you need to figure out other ways to get fat. The key way to counteract the effects of rabbit starvation is to find fats and carbohydrates. This can be done through foraging for local plants such as different types of nuts.

The main thing to take away from this is that you will not make it long if you only have rabbits to live off of. You can definitely make a bone broth to gain other nutritional elements to stay in the fight. This however will not be a solution to your body’s need for fat long term.

How long can you survive living on only rabbits?

The truth is not long, it will be determined based on factors that I can not predict. They are things such as age, weight, location, and so on. You have to find something else to eat with fat above all else to supplement your rabbit diet or you have a high probability of eventually dying.

The History of Rabbit Meat

Rabbits have been hunted and eaten for centuries, mainly in Europe and Asia. They are small, quick-moving animal that is easily caught in the wild.  This is because their only form of protection is their speed which is why setting traps is a good way of catching them. Their meat is high in protein and low in fat, making it a desirable food source for many people.

Rabbit meat is not as popular as other types of meat because it can be seen as a inferior meat in comparison to others that have higher fat content.

When people think of meat, the first thing that comes to mind is probably beef, pork or chicken. However, there are other types of meat out there that might be worth trying if you’re looking for a new way to eat. One type of meat that falls into this category is rabbit meat.

There are a couple of things to keep in mind when eating rabbits. First and foremost, rabbits are small animals and as such, their meat is relatively lean. Secondly, rabbit meat contains a high amount of protein which makes it an excellent choice if you’re looking to increase your muscle mass.

Finally, while rabbits are generally considered herbivores, they do consume small amounts of insects and other small creatures which can add some extra nutrients and flavor to their diet.

Cooking A Rabbit

Make sure to check the rabbit doesn’t have any worms, foul smell, or something that doesn’t seem right. The worst thing you can do is eating meat that is contaminated and will hurt you dearly if you risk it.

You must make sure that when you eat rabbit to make sure the meat is cooked well in order to avoid any possible germs.

How is Rabbit Meat Different from Other Types of Meats?

When it comes to meat, rabbits are unique in a few ways. First of all, they have a higher percentage of muscle tissue than other meats. This means that their meat is more densely packed with flavor and less tender. Secondly, rabbits are excellent sources of protein. They contain all nine essential amino acids, which is more than other types of meats.

Finally, because rabbits are small animals and their meat is high in protein and low in fat, they are an excellent choice for people who want to lose weight or maintain a healthy body composition.

You obviously will not be looking to lose weight in a survival situation.

While rabbit meat may not be as popular as other meats, it has a rich history and can be quite nutritious.
