Acorns Can Keep You Alive If You Have To Bugout!

There are all sorts of reasons to have an emergency bag packed and ready to go, but one of the most overlooked is that you never know when you might have to bug out.

Whether a natural disaster forces you to leave your home or you find yourself on the run from criminals or even zombies, having some supplies and gear can mean the difference between life and death. And believe it or not, acorns could be one of those lifesaving items!

In a survival situation, being able to get food is key. While many people think of hunting or fishing as the best way to get food, those options can be challenging especially if you’re in an urban area.

But if you know how to forage for food, you have leveled up.

So How Do you prepare acorns?

The best way that you can prepare acorns is by boiling them. You can also soak them as well which is leaching them of the tannins. I personally have boiled them for that extra layer of protection.

What I have done when I am out in the wild is gather a bunch of acorns. Then I shell the acorns, followed by putting them in boiling water for an hour or two.

While I am boiling them I cycle out water. So my first boil will go on for about fifteen to twenty minutes, then I will pour the water out. Then I fill the pot with new water and start boiling for another twenty minutes. I do this around four to five times. You can do more for peace of mind.

The water will turn a light brownish color when you are doing this.

The notoriety of acorns has been declining because they contain tannins, which are plant compounds that can be harmful when consumed in high amounts.

What are tannins?

You don’t want tannins in what you eating as they reduce your body’s capability for nutrient absorption. This is not what you want!

They can also lead to a host of side effects such as liver problems or even cancer.

This is why you have to eat acorns correctly!

What can you make with them?

You can do so many great things! I personally tend to grind them up into flour. This I can then use to make different loaves of bread. The number of things that you can make with flour should demonstrate how great acorns are in surviving or in daily life.

Nutritional Value

They are jammed-packed with nutrition! They have protein, fiber, vitamin A and E, potassium, and iron.

There are other minerals as well.

You need fat to survive!

They also contain a lot of healthy fats that you need so your body doesn’t stare. You can not survive on just lean meat without fat. That can lead to rabbit starvation!

The downside to preparing acorns by boiling them

The main negative to boiling acorns is that they lose some of their starches.

The solution could be doing a cold leaching in order to have your flower whiter in color and retaining some of those starches.

You may not think of acorns as a food, but they can actually help you survive. Acorns are a type of nut that is found in the United States and parts of Canada. They are usually brown or green in color and have bitterness to them.

How Do Acorns Help You Survive?

Acorns are an interesting and unique ingredient that can be found all over the world. They’re high in antioxidants, which protect your body from damage.

The nutrients inside of an acorn can help you survive because they provide fast-acting energy as well as provide long-term health benefits such as improved immunity or better skin tone. So it’s not just a one-time thing to try, because this superfood is a keeper.

Where Can You Find Acorns?

Acorns are a staple of many diets across the world. They can be found in many places, but are most common in North America and Europe. Acorns can be eaten raw, but are more commonly made into flour or meal. Acorns contain a high amount of healthy fats, protein and minerals. These nutrients help keep you alive during tough times.

What Are the Nutrients in Acorns?

There are many nutrients in acorns that can help keep you healthy. Acorns are a good source of magnesium, which is important for keeping your heart health stable and your muscles working properly. They are also a good source of potassium, which helps regulate blood pressure and supports nerve function.

What Are the Antioxidants in Acorns?

Acorns are a great source of antioxidants. They are an easy way to save money and stay healthy! Acorn’s antioxidant properties protect cells from damage, which can prevent diseases. The fiber in the acorn will make you feel full longer so that it easier for us all tackle those pesky diet cravings together.”

How Can Acorns Benefit Your Health?

I think they are such a great thing to add to things you can eat in general and outdoors. Finally, acorns are also a good source of minerals such as magnesium and potassium which can help protect your body from diseases as well.

So, if you’re looking for a healthy snack or food source that will also boost your health, consider eating some acorns!

To sum it up, acorns are nutritional powerhouses that contain many vitamins and minerals essential to human health. However, they also contain tannins which can be harmful if consumed in large quantities. Therefore, it is important to prepare acorns correctly before consuming them. Boiling is the best way to prepare acorns, and they can be used to make flour, bread, and many other delicious dishes. Just be sure to not overdo it on the tannins!
